The 1983 World Team Trials determined who would represent the United States at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Format of Competition

Gymnasts either qualified to World Team Trials from National Championships or petitioned through to trials. Gymnasts competed both compulsory and optional routines. All gymnasts competed all four events.

To determine the final standings, trials scores were multiplied by three and nationals scores were multiplied by two and the two totals were added together. Gymnasts who only competed at one of the two meets due to petitions or injury had their score from one meet multiplied by five. Gymnasts were selected to the team based on need.
