The 1996 Olympic Trials were held on June 27-30 at the Fleet Center in Boston, Massachusetts. This competition determined who would represent the United States at the Olympics in Atlanta.

Format of Competition

The competition was the same as the National Championships. There were two days of competition, where the all-around was contested on both days. The first day of competition was the compulsory round, and the second day was the optional round. This was the last Olympic Trials where the compulsory round was contested.

At the end of the second day of competition, the team would be determined by the final standings. Since Shannon Miller and Dominique Moceanu were sidelined with injuries and petitioned onto the Olympic team, the top five gymnasts would be added to the team.

This year, seven girls would make up the Olympic Team, as opposed to the usual six.
