The 38th World Artistic Gymnastics Championships were held at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia from 21 to 27 November 2005. Only the all-around and event finals were contested at this meet. There was no team competition; nations were permitted to bring up to four athletes to compete.

Format of Competition[]

Each country was allowed to bring only four gymnasts. All participating gymnasts competed in a qualification round. The results of this competition determined which teams and individuals participated in the remaining competitions, which included:

  • The all-around competition, in which only the twenty-four highest scoring individuals in the all-around competed. Each country was limited to only two gymnasts in the all-around final. The all-around was contested two days after qualifications.
  • The event finals, in which the eight highest scoring individuals on each apparatus competed. Each country was limited to two gymnasts in each apparatus final. The event finals were contested a few days after the all-around.
