The 2011 Visa National Championships were held in St. Paul, Minnesota on August 18-20th.

Format of Competition

The competition was split into junior and senior divisions, with both divisions competing in the same two days of competition, where the all-around was contested on both days. The gymnasts who specialized and only competed certain events had to scratch (touch the apparatus then salute the judges) on the apparatus they chose not to compete. The combined total at the end of the second day of competition would stand as the gymnast's final score.

Notable Moments

  • These National Championships were plagued by an enormous amount of falls, particularly on the first day of competition. The only gymnasts who went through both days of competition with no falls were Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman, and Shawn Johnson.
  • Shawn Johnson and Chellsie Memmel joined Alicia Sacramone on the comeback route. Memmel was the only one to compete the all-around as Sacramone hasn't competed uneven bars since 2006, and Johnson was recovering from a torn ACL and chose to scratch on floor exercise. However, on Memmel's last routine, on uneven bars, she sustained a shoulder injury and could not complete her routine.
  • Rebecca Bross, who was still recovering from lingering injuries, dislocated her kneecap on vault in the third rotation on the second day of competition. Everyone in the arena was shaken by her injury. She had to be carried off the podium and was taken out of the arena in a wheelchair.
