Notable Moments

  • During qualifications, Romania's Cătălina Ponor failed to fulfill one of the requirements on floor exercise. The judges initially missed this and awarded her a 5.4 D score, giving her a final score of 13.566 that was good enough to make the floor exercise final. After the competition had concluded, the judges realized their error and took off five tenths for not fulfilling the requirement, which dropped her D score to 4.9. Her new score of 13.066 left her out of the floor exercise final.
  • Germany's Tabea Alt qualified third into the all-around but had to withdraw due to illness.
  • Ellie Downie is the first British gymnast to become European All-Around Champion.
  • Zsófia Kovács achieved the highest all-around placing for a Hungarian gymnast: second.
  • Mélanie de Jesus Dos Santos won France their first European all-around medal since 2005.
  • Coline Devillard became the first French gymnast to win the European title on vault.
  • Nina Derwael became the first Belgian gymnast to win a European gold medal.
  • Great Britain's Becky Downie injured her elbow in the uneven bars final. Her spot in the balance beam final was given to her teammate Claudia Fragapane.[3]
