Current status

Angel Aphrodite Romaeo (born August 14 in Cardiff) is an elite British gymnast from Wales. She has an older sister named Venus (who is a retired gymnast) and a brother, Romeo, a boxer who hopes to make the Olympics in Rio. She trains at Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff.

Junior Career

In 2011, Romaeo competed at the Youth Commonwealth Games on the Isle of Man. She won gold in the all-around, silver with her team, bronze on uneven bars, and placed fourth on balance beam and floor exercise.

In 2012, Romaeo was named to the junior British team for the European Championships. She qualified to the all-around, but placed a disappointing fifteenth. The British team finished fourth in the junior division. In October, Romaeo competed at the Northern European Championships, where she won silver on uneven bars and floor exercise.

Senior Career

Romaeo's senior debut came in 2013, when she took the senior Welsh National title. She didn't compete much the rest of the year. In 2014, she competed at the Welsh Nationals, winning silver on beam, and placing fourth on bars and fifth in the all-around. She didn't compete the all-around at the British Championships, and did not make the event finals. She was named to the Welsh team for the Commonwealth Games in late July, where they won a historic bronze medal. She had more success at the Northern European Championships in Denmark, winning team, uneven bars, and floor exercise gold medals. In December, she competed at the Pas de Calais International, winning team and all-around gold, floor exercise bronze, and placing fifth on beam, and sixth on bars.

In February, she competed at the WOGA Classic, placing fifth on beam and tenth in the all-around. She only competed on uneven bars at the Welsh National Championships, winning bronze on bars and placing fourth in the Open. She went on to compete as a guest at the French National Championships, winning gold with her team, Alliance Dijon Gym 21. At the British Championships, she placed fourth on floor and in the all-around and seventh on beam. In late May, she placed fifth with her team and sixteenth in the all-around at the Flanders International Team Challenge in Ghent, Belgium.
