Current status

Gabriela Drăgoi (born August 28 in Buzău, Romania) is a retired Romanian gymnast. She represented Romania at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Drăgoi made her international senior elite debut at the 2008 European Championships in Clermont-Ferrand, France. She was called in last minute to replace teammate Cerasela Pătraşcu who had injured her foot. Drăgoi helped the Romanian team to a gold medal in the team competition by competing on vault and uneven bars. Later that year at Romanian National Championships, she surprised many by winning the gold medal on balance beam over Steliana Nistor; she also placed 7th in the all-around and 6th on vault. Drăgoi was selected to represent Romania at the 2008 Summer Olympics. She helped her team to a bronze medal finish in the team competition. Individually, Drăgoi qualified in 7th place for the balance beam event final with the highest beam score of all Romanian gymnasts. In the final, she scored better than her qualifying score and placed 5th.

At the beginning of the year Drăgoi was facing injuries. Despite this, she competed at the European Championships where she qualified to the balance beam event final and place 9th on uneven bars, just missing the event final. Drăgoi went on to win a bronze medal on balance beam. After Sandra Izbasa was injured, Drăgoi was called in to replace her at the London World Championships. In London Drăgoi did not advance to any finals after placing 11th and 17th on uneven bars and balance beam respectively.

In early January Drăgoi underwent surgery for a tear near her tibia. This set her back as she would not be able to compete at European Championships that year. Drăgoi came back in August to compete at a friendly meet in Great Britain. Later that year Drăgoi made the World Championships team. She competed on uneven bars and balance beam to help her team to a 4th place finish in the team finals and did not advance to any individual finals.

Following 2010  Drăgoi did not compete in any more major international competitions. Drăgoi officially retired in 2012. She is a student at the National Academy of Physical Education and Sports and would like to be a gymnastics coach.
