Ava Lorein Verdeflor (born January 2 in Tarlac) is an elite Filipina gymnast. Although she represents the Philippines internationally, Verdeflor resides in the United States and trains at WOGA, the same gym that produced back-to-back Olympic All-Around Champions Carly Patterson and Nastia Liukin. One of Verdeflor's coaches is Evgeny Marchenko, Patterson's personal coach.
Shortly after she was born, her family moved to Singapore from the Philippines. They moved to California in 2002, where she trained at Pegasus Gymnastics in Milpitas and later Airborne Gymnastics in Santa Clara. Her family moved again, this time to Allen, Texas, in 2006, where she began training at WOGA.
Verdeflor made her national debut at the Philippine Nationals Games in 2013, where she won the all-around and was named to the Philippine National Team.
Verdeflor burst onto the international scene in 2014, at the Nadia Comaneci International Invitational in Oklahoma. She won silver with the team from WOGA and placed fifth in the all-around. She competed at the Junior Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and placed twelfth in the all-around, qualifying to the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. There, she placed sixth on bars and eleventh in the all-around.
Verdeflor's senior debut came at the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, where she won uneven bars silver, team bronze, and placed fourth in the all-around and seventh on floor. In October, she competed at the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, but failed to make the all-around or event finals.
