Maria Anatolyevna Bondareva (Russian: Мария Анатольевна Бондарева, born November 28 in Fryazino) is a retired elite Russian gymnast. She trained under Ulyana Pursheva and Yuriy Bachurin and alongside teammate Maria Stepanova.

Junior Career

Bondareva has a lot of international experience for such a young Russian gymnast. In 2012, she competed at the International Gymnix and City of Jesolo Trophy. At Gymnix, she won the all-around. At Jesolo, she helped the junior Russian team place third and placed eighth in the all-around. She was too young to compete at the Junior European Championships. She competed at the Voronin Cup in December but did not medal.

In January, Bondareva competed at the International Gymnix. She helped the Russian team win the team gold in the Junior Cup division. She also tied for gold in the all-around with compatriot Anastasia Dmitrieva, and won silver on balance beam. Later, she competed at the European Youth Olympic Festival, winning the team and balance beam gold medal, and placed fifth in the all-around. In September, she competed at the Japan Junior International, placing sixth in the all-around and winning bronze on uneven bars.

Bondareva competed at the Russian Championships in April, winning gold with her team. However, she pulled out of the all-around and event finals. She was later named to the junior Russian team for the European Championships, winning team gold. That November, she competed at the KSI-Matsz Cup, winning bronze in the junior all-around.

Senior Career

Bondareva's senior debut came at the Russian Championships in March, where she won team gold and placed eighth in the all-around, bars, and floor. In May, she competed at a friendly meet against gymnasts from Italy, Romania, and Colombia, winning team gold. In October, Bondareva medically retired, citing a back injury, and instead chose to go to university and become a coach.[1]
