I cannot find the beam skill Maarranen (jump forward with half twist into bck salto tucked) in the CoP, yet this wiki and videos on YT credit its existence. Do you know why this is? Is it known under a different name or what?
I've already searched there. Maaranen's name is listed on named UB elements but not on BB named elements. Only the Produnova (jump fwrd half twist into bakc salto) appears. That's why I asked. Are you saying Maaranen is a colloquial name for the tucked version, but it is technically a Produnova in the CoP?
I don't get it. There haven't been any big CoP changes since Nanning apart from skill additions, so I have absolutely no idea why they would remove Maaranen's name from the eponymous beam skills. I'm still keeping her name in the skill guide, though.
Huh. it's very befuddling because so many of us across the gymternet are trying to discern exactly what skill Biles perfomed at Classics: I believe it is a Maaranen, but now that may not even be an official skill according to the Code. Very confusing... especially considering that this wiki is not the only place to credit it's existence. Many YT videos do as well.
Btw, I still wish to add a routines section where I can. You said that a routine section is unecessary because of YT videos dedicated to that very thing, but that does not make sense: a wiki's puporse is to be an ultra-convenient, go-to amalgamation of relevant info assembled exactly so people don't have to go around clicking on different sites.
PQST says Simone's Barani is a variant of a free aerial round-off, she twists too early for it to be a Maaranen or a Grigoras. She said they gave her the Grigoras at Classics, but I never saw confirmation for that. She says she won't get it internationally.
No, I believe they credit her with an E-skill (Her routine with all connections granted is a 6.8). From the videos I've watched and the comparisons I've seen, she is performing a jump fwd with half twist into back salto. An you're suppose to twist early in that skill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0UcVGZf9OI
So freakin' confusing... This user often codes routines and it looked accurate to me. Perhaps another reason to add a routine section, some may find it helpful - or we may find it helpful. I've asked Lauren at thegymternet, but she hasn't gotten back yet.
But the blogger didn't answer whether she got credited with an E-skill or an F-skill. She said that she thinks Simone with get credit for a Grigoras, and in a final act of muddying the waters Simone herself simply referred to it as a Barani, not a Grigoras specifically. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IX8xbEpuef8
So in other words, nobody knows exactly what the hell is going on.
I never said it was inappropriate or inaccurate. Check my edit summary again. I said it was unnecessary. People on YouTube make skill and routine guides for gymnasts. If people want to know what's in a gymnast's routines, they go to YouTube.
btw, be careful when you edit in visual mode. Sometimes it screws up the HTML.
How tall is Flavia from Brazil? Maddie and Ellie look like basketball players next to her... Even Simone and Victoria Nguyen looks like they are significantly taller than her. I mean I saw the fx vid but didn't realize she's so petite compared to the other two!
I suspect the US already kind of already know who they are sending (or rather who they are saving from) bc simone was replying on her ask.fm that she and aly won't be there. I suspect that they already somewhat plan it since it's only 1wk before US classics.
Guess will have to wait for more official statements...
Official WAG US Pan Am to be named at June 29-July 3 camp. Awfully close to Pan Am start date. Wonder who it will be/wont be if Simone and Aly are not going to be sent. This is also so close to Classics it will not be easy for those competing at both. or would those at pan am get excused from classics?
Marta is using Pan Ams to test out certain people for Worlds. Aly and Simone have likely already proved themselves at Jesolo. My guess is Bailie will be going to Pan Ams, in order to get more international experience as a senior. I hope Nia will be healthy enough for Pan Ams. I'm anxiously waiting for her senior debut. She missed Jesolo because of an injury.
Absolutely no idea. It's not really fair to base women's vault start values on men's vault start values. The handspring double front is worth less than the TTY in the men's code, but the opposite is true in the women's code. Women prefer round-off entry vaults while men prefer handspring vaults, and that's reflected in their respective codes.
