In 1986 after a tough comeback from her injury she failed to make the National Team after placing 24th in the all-around at National Championships but decided to continue with gymnastics. The next year, after significant upgrades, she earned a bronze medal on uneven bars at the U.S. National Championships as well as placing 12th in the all-around. She regained her spot on the National Team but following the 1987 National Championships, Dusserre retired from elite gymnastics.
