Current status

Tyesha Mattis (born April 17 in Hackney) is an elite British gymnast. She is the 2013 Junior British Champion and 2014 Junior English Champion. She trains at East London Gymnastics Club, coached by Lorraine Atkinson.

Junior Career

Mattis made her international debut at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival, winning gold in the all-around and on vault, silver with the British team, and bronze on uneven bars and floor exercise. Later that spring, she won the all-around and balance beam at the British Championships, as well as silver on floor exercise and bronze on vault.

In July, Mattis competed at the European Youth Olympic Festival, winning silver with the British team, bronze in the all-around and on vault, and placing fifth on uneven bars. She also unveiled a huge double twisting double tucked somersault in her floor exercise, an enormous skill for all gymnasts, especially juniors. Mattis was the first British gymnast to perform a tucked double double on floor.

In March, Mattis competed at the English Championships, winning all-around and vault gold, uneven bars silver, balance beam bronze, and placing fourth on floor exercise. She didn't have her best competition in the all-around at the British Championships, only placing sixth. But she won gold on vault and bars and placed fourth on floor in the event finals. Mattis suffered a knee injury in late April which took her out of the running for the European Championships and Youth Olympics.

Senior Career

Mattis' senior debut came at the English Championships in March, where she won silver on bars and placed fifth on beam. At her first senior British Championships, she won titles on bars and beam.

After missing the 2016 season and the Olympics, Mattis returned to competition at the British Championships in March, where she placed fifth on uneven bars. In April, she competed at the English Championships, winning all-around and uneven bars silver and balance beam bronze.
